A great deal of industry attention is currently focused on fixed-mobile convergence and wireless broadband technologies that support multimedia quality of service. Dual mode WiFi/mobile terminals will facilitate access to advanced calling features on enterprise and residential WLANs, while also supporting seamless hand-off with wide area mobile networks. Converged services solutions range from Unlicensed Mobile Access technology to SIP-over-Wi-Fi based on an IP Multimedia Subsystem architecture. At the same time, Wi-Fi mesh deployments and WiMax Metropolitan Area Networks will provide new broadband access options with the QoS required for service convergence. New business models are now emerging as both established operators and new entrants consider the opportunities enabled by converged services and expanded wireless broadband access.

The EntNet Wireless Workshop will feature highly interactive demonstrations of broadband MAN and Wi-Fi mesh access technologies and converged services enabled by UMA and SIP-over-Wi-Fi with dual mode subscriber terminals. Complimenting the technology demonstrations, network operators will present case studies of broadband wireless deployments and market requirements for converged services.

Fye Associates LLC, USA

Donald M. Fye is an independent consultant specializing in telecommunications technology and business development. He previously held positions as Director of Technology Development and Assistant Vice President of Network Engineering and Construction for GTE Wireless, where he was responsible for high-speed wireless data initiatives and CDMA network capacity enhancement, and led the teams responsible for GTE's 1.8 GHz PCS deployments. He also was Manager of the Mobile Research Department at GTE Laboratories. Fye holds a B.S.E.E. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Sc.M. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Science from Brown University.
